Now call for scheme to uplift ‘single fathers’

SHILLONG: NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai suggested the need to have a scheme for the ‘single fathers’ in addition to the existing package for single mothers in the wake of rise in cases of husbands abandoned by their wives in State.
Taking part in the discussion on Governor’s address on Friday, Shullai said, “There are times when a man abandoned by his wife has to look after five to six children alone and the government should launch welfare measures to address these concerns,” he said.
Shullai also expressed concern over the rise in cases of rape against women and minors.
He reminded the House about the stringent rules that existed in the society in the past which had acted as a deterrent to the crime.
He also expressed concern over the encroachment by defence establishment in parts of the city and wanted the government to intervene into the matter.
