4th teachers’ protest march on Friday

SHILLONG: Members of the 4th Teachers’ Association will march to the Directorate of School Education and Literacy in Laitumkhrah on March 17 in protest against the State’s apathy to hike their salary.
The association, which has 1,521 members in the State, took the decision on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Aristotle Rymbai, president of Meghalaya SSA School Association, said, “Since 2013, the 4th teachers have been asking the State government to enhance their salary to bring them on a par with the SSA teachers.”
The 4th teachers get Rs 6,000 per month. “If the state government refuses to hear our pleas, we will resort to agitation,” said Rymbai.
The association members will start their protest march around 11am and the agitation will go on till 2.30pm.
