SHILLONG:  BJP general secretary David Kharsati on Tuesday apologised for his “demeaning comments” against UDP MLA Donkupar Roy and said mudslinging was not the party’s agenda.
Kharsati, while addressing a gathering at Ichamati on Monday, had remarked, “Doctor (referring to Roy who is a doctorate in Economics) ka naam, shaitan ka kaam (his name is doctor but he does evil work).”
Withdrawing his words, Kharsati said it was a slip on his part with “no awful intention as his party is committed to bringing in clean politics with no self-glorifying agenda”.
Meanwhile, UDP vice president Allantry Dkhar said Kharsati’s comment against “a stalwart and reputed leader like Roy was derogatory and defamatory” and hurt the sentiments of many.
“This clearly warrants a defamation suit if he fails to substantiate his charge,” he added.
