SHILLONG: The absence of traffic personnel on city roads after 8 pm was brought to the notice of the Government by UDP legislator Paul Lyngdoh.
During the question hour of the Assembly on Wednesday, Lyngdoh urged Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh to verify whether the department deploys traffic personnel after 8 pm.
The reply of the Home Minister was that mobile patrolling is carried out by police personnel after 8 pm.
Lyngdoh even asked the Home Minister to take a ride with him after 8 pm “to know the truth”.
To another supplementary question, the Home Minister said that the shift of the traffic personnel is from 7 am to 1 pm and 1 pm to 8 pm respectively which revealed that no traffic personnel is deployed after 8 pm.
The Home Minister later assured that the need for an additional shift from 8 pm will be examined.
