Assam govt staff to get revised pay from April

Guwahati: Around 4.20 lakh employees of Assam government will be paid revised salary with effect from April 1 next with the state Cabinet giving its nod to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
The Commission constituted by the State Government in 2015 submitted its report in November, 2016.
The Pay Commission, headed by former State Chief Secretary PP Verma, recommended between 14.61 per cent and 18.69 per cent hike in the basic salaries of the grade III and IV employees of the State Government.
For the grade I and II officers, the hike is recommended to be between 5.05 per cent and 13.30 per cent.
The implementation of the recommendations will cost the State exchequer an additional burden of Rs 3,238.28 crore, which includes enhanced pension, besides the salary of the employees, in the financial year of 2017-18.
For employees salary an additional amount of Rs 1,930.07 crore would be required, while for the pensioners an additional Rs 1,012 crore would be required and for other allowances, an additional Rs 296.21 crore would be needed.
According to official sources, the Cabinet decided to release the first instalment of the arrears to the employees by April. Since the pay panel recommendations will be implemented with effect from April 1, 2016, the employees will get arrear amounts for a period of one year till March 31 this year.
The total amount of arrear to be paid to the employees is around Rs 2,200 crore.
