GSU to picket Baghmara PHED office tomorrow

TURA: Members of the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) will picket the Baghmara division of the PHE office on March 22 in protest against the department’s failure to solve water crisis, the pressure group said.
GSU has been demanding replacement of worn out water pipes from Rongdong to Baghmara, installation of new pumps under the Urban Area Water Pump Scheme and maintenance of the water pump on the Simsang River.
Earlier, a memorandum was submitted to the chief engineer of PHED in Shillong. But GSU said the department did not replace the damaged pipelines despite the prolonged water crisis in South Garo Hills.
