SHILLONG: The special highway patrol vehicles deployed by the police have no number plates, said Independent legislator John Leslee Sangma. During the question hour on Monday, Sangma pointed out that these special vehicles also check documents which they are not supposed to do. In reply to a question by Sangma, Home Minister HDR Lyngdoh said on Monday that he would verify the matter.
As many as 13 highway patrol cars have been deployed in the State since September 2016.
The Home Minister said the vehicles were helpful in detecting crime, besides assisting people in distress.
