Bhaichung Bhutia attends NEC sports conclave in city

SHILLONG: The Indian Chamber of Commerce in association with the North Eastern Council organised the 2nd Northeast Sports Conclave here on Tuesday.
The summit discussed the scope and potential of sports in the North East, highlighted the lack of sports infrastructure in the region, discussed various corrective measures and laid emphasis on a strategic plan to make sports a viable career option for the youth of the region.
The inaugural session was attended by NEC Secretary Ram Muivah, director of Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Guwahati Subhash Basumatary, secretary general of Nagaland Olympic Association T. Meren Paul and Working President of Meghalaya State Olympic Association J.F Kharshiing, besides others.
The technical session was graced by Indian football star Bhaichung Bhutia, AIFF vice president and president of Meghalaya Football Association Larsing Ming Sawian and Assistant Coach of FC Pune City (ISL) Renedy Singh. Bhutia said he would be more than happy to lend his expertise for developing young footballers from the region. He spoke at length about his football academy and encouraged youngsters to take up the game as a passion and follow their dreams.
The conclave was also attended by dignitaries from various sports associations from Meghalaya, including badminton, chess, boxing, athletics, football, swimming, table tennis, lawn tennis and taekwondo.
