SHILLONG: Many villages in the state are yet to be electrified and one such area is Phodeitsim, a village around two hours away from Phodkroh, South West Khasi Hills District.
The Dorbar Shnong of Phodeitsim, along with Khasi Student Union (KSU) Ranikor Circle on Friday met the Director of MeECL and demanded that   electricity should be made available in the village.
Speaking to reporters, the residents of the village said that the matter was taken up with the local MLA Martin M. Danggo, in 2007 but till date, those assurances have not been turned into action.
Expressing the grievances of the people on not having the privilege of electricity in the village, the headman said, “During exam times most of our children have to light up a candle to study and prepare for their exams.”
Marconi Thongni, president KSU Ranikor Circle, informed that the village had been included in the census of 2000-2001 and 2010-2012 of the government.
During the meeting, the MeECL Director informed that the village will be included in the Phase II of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana.
