SHILLONG: The State government has started the process of constituting a special court to exclusively deal with rape against children after the green signal from the High Court.
An official said on Monday that file has started moving and the Government will have to create posts for special judges to deal with cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act due to the shortage of judges.
Currently, the District and Sessions Judge is overburdened with POCSO cases.
As many as 343 cases of sexual crimes against minors are pending in various courts in Meghalaya.
While there were altogether 354 cases under the POCSO Act, only 11 cases were disposed of in the State.
