Ampati: The members of District Level Coordination Committee, South West Garo Hills held a meeting on crimes against women and children at Ampati Circuit House on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Cyril V. Darlong Diengdoh, who is also a Chairman of the Committee.
The meeting reviewed the status of cases of crimes against women and found that 15 cases, including cases under POCSO, rape, domestic violence and molestation were pending, and the District Police was asked to expedite these cases on a priority basis. The problems and constraints in dealing with such crimes which led to the delay in resolving the cases were also discussed.
The members also raised certain issues of concern, particularly teen pregnancy and early marriage, among others and the DC suggested that the DMHO and District Social Welfare Office should organise awareness programmes in different parts of the district to educate the communities.
Earlier, the District Social Welfare Office and Member Secretary, DLCC, L.J. Sangma gave a status report of crimes against women in the district through a power point presentation.
