SHILLONG: Speaking against the Dorbar Shnong and asking for rights may cost an individual dearly and Kamlising Mukhim can vouch for it.
Mukhim, a resident of Mawlein village under Mawkynrew Block in East Khasi Hills, was ostracised after he opposed the decision of the Dorbar Shnong to deprive his family of subsidised rice from fair price shops. Mukhim had filed a complaint with the deputy commissioner and the superintendent of police.
The Dorbar Shnong on Thursday announced that Mukhim was ostracised and he had nothing to do with the village.
“I opposed the Dorbar Shnong when my family was deprived of the quota of rice from the fair price shop and for the increased rate of subsidised rice over and above the rate supplied by the government,” Mukhim said.
He filed a complaint against the Sordar with the DC who then directed the parties to resolve the matter at the village level.
“The Sordar was angry over the complaint filed which led him to ostracise me,” Mukhim said.
Mukhim mentioned that the announcement of his ostracism was made on March 21 and that was published in a local daily on March 30.
