SHILLONG: Rain which has lashed the city in the last two days is likely to continue till April 3 according to official data.
The India Meteorological Department, Guwahati, has warned that heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Assam and Meghalaya on April 3.
According to the Meteorological Department, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will also see rain on April 1 and 2.
The rainfall recorded in a span of one day in North East, particularly in Meghalaya has gone up as compared to the rest of the country, especially at a time when other states are experiencing relentless heat wave. Rainfall in Cherrapunjee, has doubled since Tuesday with 151 mm recorded rainfall in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday.
The monsoon type downpour on Wednesday and Thursday had taken many in cities by surprise.
The rain and traffic together played spoilsport for the pedestrians and commuters alike. With vehicles moving from all directions and commuters trying to board cabs and buses while handling their umbrellas was chaotic.
The same was the situation while disembarking a vehicle since commuters had to be cautious about opening their umbrellas while managing their kids and not stepping on the stream like scene outside rendered everywhere by the rain.
The garbage mess came to the fore when drains overflowed into streets and rainwater flooded roads and public places. The strewn wastes and flooding water left no space for the pedestrians to tread.
