VAB with Attorney General: Guv
SHILLONG: A delegation of Lok Janshakti Party Meghalaya has called on Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Tuesday under the leadership of Party president Jamil Ahmed. The LJP pursued the matter of Village Administration Bill pending with the Raj Bhavan and requested early passing of the bill to which, the Governor said “The Raj Bhavan is waiting for the opinion of the Attorney General of India.” The LJP also urged the Governor to preserve and protect the indigenous culture, tradition and custom of the locals. Ahmed has apprised the governor of the current situation of the state, especially the remote areas.The Party suggested him to start awareness programmes and counseling in order to bring down crime against women and children.

JAC extends appreciation to KHADC
SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Social Organisations comprising the CSWO, Umran Dairy Unit, HYM, PPM, RBPM and the CSWO Central Body expresses its gratitude to the KHADC for taking prompt action on the letter of complaint submitted to the CEM and EM Trade respectively on March 29, relating to the construction of a new Petrol Filling Station at Umran Dairy in Ri Bhoi District due to numerous anomalies.The KHADC authority in its letter No.DC.ETL/388/2017/5 dated April 11, has directed the concerned persons to cease all construction activities immediately.

Training on ERO Net conducted
AMPATI: The office of the District Election Officer, South West Garo Hills conducted a day-long training on ERO Net for the supervisors and booth-level officers (BLOs) in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Conference Hall at Ampati on Wednesday. The training was organised in view of the fact that the Election Commission of India would be launching ERO Net under ECI-Net system in the state of Meghalaya and Mizoram shortly.

Workshop on gender justice
SHILLONG: The Department of Philosophy of St. Mary’s College has organised a workshop on Gender Justice: Legal Awareness and Preventive Measures on crimes against women as part of the Platinum Jubilee celebration programme. The workshop aims to familiarise the students with the concept of justice and how it applies to gender specifically. It also aims to sensitise the students about the grim ground realities of how women and girls suffer violence on a regular basis, practically in every sphere of life. Inaugurating the workshop, W. Diengdoh, Member Secretary of the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority, highlighted the fact that there is still patriarchal dominance and ultimate subjugation of women in India and the world, which reflects the decadence, immorality and mindset of today’s society. The others who spoke in the workshop were X.P. Mao (HOD Philosophy, NEHU, Sukalpa Bhattercharjee. HOD English, NEHU, Rebina Subba, Advocate, and Member Meghalaya State Commission for Women, Ivyreen Warjri, Mission Director, State Resource Centre for Women, Miguel Das Queah, Founder Chairperson, UTSAH Foundation, Guwahati, Meena Kharkongor, Chairperson, Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, woman police officer, P Wahlang, woman police officer, and Lakhan Kma, Programme Coordinator of National Service Scheme, NEHU.
