TURA: The students’ union at Tikrikilla College in West Garo Hills has objected to the arrest of a student for assaulting a girl.
The general secretary of the Tikrikilla College Students’ Union, Arbistone A. Sangma, said police did not give Pawan Marak, who assaulted the girl on the campus on Wednesday, the opportunity to narrate his version.
Marak surrendered to Tikrikilla police after the girl was hospitalised in Guwahati. He was later taken to a local court in Tura.
The general secretary of the Tikrikilla College Students’ Union, Arbistone A. Sangma demanded that Marak should be allowed to appear for the second semester final examinations beginning from April 21.
The union leader also threatened with consequences if Marak was not allowed to write the exams.
“I strongly protest such kind of indiscriminate prompt action,” he said on shifting the accused to Tura.
Later, two representatives of the students’ union gave a statement before police about Wednesday’s incident.According to reports, the girl along with a group of boys had trespassed and when spotted by the student, the boys fled leaving the girl behind.
However, police said since the accused has already been sent to judicial custody, the matter is now in the hands of the court to decide.
