Agartala: A facebook post of CPI-M party of Tripura regarding the lifestyle of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar triggered serious reaction in the political circle while the party leaders preferred to be silent over the controversy.
The facebook status went viral across the state that earned criticism, as it was far from the truth.
The status updated by the CPM Krishnanagar Local Committee of Agartala stated that Sarkar donates his entire salary and perks to the party and manages his life with Rs 5000 per month given by the party.
The post further mentioned that Sarkar walked down to the Secretariat and his wife, a central government officer travel by rickshaw and the residence where the couple stays is a small house spread over only 432 sqft area which costs Rs 2.20 lakh and wash clothes on their own, which are not facts.
The opposition parties became critical on the campaign and sought clarification from the chief minister.
BJP state president Biplab Kumar Deb alleged that not only in facebook, CPI-M party feed the same information through some of their sympathiser in Kolkata to a popular TV channel of West Bengal and a few other national media.
“With the growth of BJP and public support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, CPI-M in Tripura became helpless and now uses their last option of falsehood to a created clean character of the chief minister who is not at all a communist rather became an icon of luxury,” Deb alleged.
People of Tripura and even each of the CPI-M supporters know what the lifestyle of Sarkar and his wife is, Deb said, adding that Sarkar’s better half retired as an officer of Central government only a few years ago and gets a handsome pension but the communists made her a social activist suddenly.
Trinamool Congress legislator and senior leader Sudip Roy Barman demanded clarification from Sarkar whether he endorsed such campaign by his sympathisers and added, “A section of media was gratified by the Left Front government to carry out such false campaign for Sarkar. It is shame for the people of Tripura.”
Congress president Birajit Sinha stated that such bogus campaign for a Chief Minister shows the political bankruptcy of the communist and said, “Sarkar wear most expensive dresses, shoes and specs. A multi gym was installed in his residence, which costs more than Rs 20 crore, he travel in a luxury car for short trip and travel by helicopter even for more than 50 kms distance.”
