Former NGO leader to contest from North Shillong

SHILLONG: Former president of an NGO, Hynniewtrep National People’s Movement (HNPM), Tony Marbaniang, has decided to contest the 2018 Assembly election in the State from North Shillong.
“The people want me to contest from 17 North Shillong constituency. I have supporters from both the tribal and non-tribal communities in Jail Road, Police Reserve, Polo, Punjabi Lane and other localities,” he told reporters here on Monday adding that he aspires to contest on a BJP ticket.
“If the BJP does not accept me, I will contest as an independent,” said Marbaniang, who has enrolled himself as a Bharatiya Janata Party member ahead of the election.
