SSA teachers to discontinue hunger strike after report from Govt

SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) has stated that the hunger strike scheduled for April 26-28 will be discontinued upon receiving a report from State Project Director, State Educational Mission Authority of Meghalaya, who is also the Director of School Education and Literacy.
In a statement issued here, MSSASA president Aristotle C. Rymbai said the revised salary and arrears of 12,481 SSA teachers from April 1, 2016 is Rs 21.84 crore and the State Government is awaiting the second installment from the Central government for the release of the revised salary.
As for the arrears, the State Government needs Rs 100 crore more as sanctioned and approved by the Project Approval Board (PAB) 2016-17 of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD).
Meanwhile, the black flag week observed by the association since April 19 ended on Monday.
The association said that their demands for the enhancement of salaries, results of Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) and others have made progress.
