SHILLONG: The 116th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Shillong will be commemorated in the city starting Thursday.
“Shillong was sanctified by the visit of Swami Vivekananda who delivered the last public lecture of his life on April 27, 1901 on the occasion of the inauguration of Quinton Memorial Hall, at the same place where today stands Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre,” an RKM release said. The visit will be commemorated through a programme starting with the annual function of computer training and language units to be held in two sessions at Vivekananda Cultural Centre on Thursday.
The art exhibition and inaugural function of the art training unit will be the highlight of April 29.
About 700 parents and students are likely to attend the function. On April 30 the programme for devotees will start at 8:30 am with a spiritual retreat and will continue throughout the morning.
In the afternoon, at 3:00 pm, the invocation and convocation of Sanskriti (training on Indian culture for children) will be held.
