SHILLONG: Nongkrem MDC HS Shylla has suggested constitution of a grievances committee in the KHADC to facilitate filing of complaints, if any, for errors and violations, against MDCs and the CEM by the public.
Shylla on Saturday said that the district council is an autonomous body where the State and the Central governments cannot interfere even if there are mistakes or wrongdoings and hence there is a need to create the grievances committee.
“At the moment people can only go to the court or the press with complaints against the MDCs or the CEM,” he pointed out.
He suggested that the leader of opposition in the KHADC can be the chairman of the grievances committee which can have three MDCs from opposition and two from ruling as members. “Besides one officer at the level of Joint Secretary or Secretary can be the Secretary of the committee,” he added.
In addition, he also suggested rules should be framed for the committee after holding discussions with traditional heads and NGOs.
