NONGSTOIN: The West Khasi Hills district magistrate has clamped Section 144 of the CrPC on national and state highways and other places prohibiting dumping of coal.
According to the order, coal should be dumped only at designated depots and no one should transport coal from Nongstoin to Mairang.
There were reports trucks are plying via Mairang to Barapani Industrial Estate to avoid weighbridges or checkpoints between Nongstoin and the industrial estates. This was causing loss to the exchequer.
The only exit point in West Khasi Hills will be via Dainadubi and Athiabari.
Dumping of coal to places other than depots causes environmental hazards, like contaminating river water.
