SHILLONG: The state election department will soon launch ‘Meghalaya Votes’, a mobile application to help voters find details of their electoral rolls and other information.
The chief electoral officer, Frederick Kharkongor, said the Government-to-Citizen application will use Google map to ascertain polling stations and EPIC details, among others.
“The mobile application can access information like name of the voter, EPIC number, Assembly constituency, district name and other details regarding the candidates. Using the app, voters can also access the information related to their polling stations to enable them to cast their votes at the specific polling station,” he said.
The mobile app will run on any Android device from version 4.0 onwards.
The Assembly-wise details of contestants after finalisation of nominations andwithdrawal will be available in the app.
The Meghalaya Votes app will help citizens reach their respective polling stations (booths). After providing the name of the district, Assembly constituency and polling station number, the citizen will get the exact location of the booths on Google map with the path to reach the polling station from their existing positions.
Kharkongor said the app, which is being developed, will be launched prior to the 2018 Assembly polls.
