Imphal: Nagaland Chief Minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu on Tuesday announced that efforts were on to improve inter-state relations between Nagaland and Manipur.
“All must realize that only when there is peace, there can be development and this applies to the entire North East region as the problems faced by the states are almost the same”, Liezietsu, who is on a visit to Manipur, told reporters here.
A felicitation was held at Classic Grande attended by large number of people.
In a press conference here, Chief minister Shurhozelie Liezietsu told the media persons that “Peaceful co-existence of different cultures and ethnic groups would bring development in the region.”
He said the meeting with Chief Minister N Biren Singh was just a courtesy call. Liezietsu said that different ethnic communities should learn to live together and should strive to retrieve the bond of living together peacefully as good neighbours in the region.
He claimed that “some leaders” in the past had exploited the situation for their “selfish ends” and created feelings among different communities.
Liezietsu said, people of Manipur has seen a new ray of hope in the new government and the Meitei community should play the role of big brother to create peace and friendship among the different ethnic communities.
“However, with the change of the government that has changed and there is no tension between the two states,” the CM said.
Stating that Naga People’s Front (NPF) had extended its assistance in forming the BJP-led government in Manipur, Liezietsu exuded confidence that a “new era has begun”.
Replying to a query on the economic blockade along highways in landlocked Manipur, the NPF president said it was over and there are considerations to create a separate road for truckers heading toward Manipur as Kohima experiences heavy traffic jam during the day and trucks are not allowed to enter the city.
