BSF seizes clothes, dry fish consignments

SHILLONG:  The BSF troops deployed at Umsiyam in East Khasi Hills district seized a huge consignment of clothes while being smuggled into Bangladesh from India.
The vigilant BSF troops noticed a suspected Mahindra pickup laden with several packets stopped near the International Border. The troops immediately rushed to the spot to verify the activity, the persons who were attempting to unload the packets on seeing BSF soldiers ran away.
The BSF recovered more than 3000 sarees worth around Rs. 28 lakhs.
In another incident, the BSF troops deployed at Pyrdwah, East Khasi Hills seized another huge consignment of dry fish. The special operation party of BSF laid a trap in a thickly vegetated area. Before the smugglers could succeed in their nefarious activity, brave Jawans cordoned off the area and recovered considerable number bags of dry fish (2010 Kgs) worth more than Rs. 9 lakhs. However the smugglers managed to flee taking advantage of darkness and thick vegetation.
All the seized items are handed over to concerned department for further legal action.
