SHILLONG: Sericulture workers of Jaintia Hills were already threatened by officers of the department after the wage scam was reported.
TUR leader Angela Rangad on Thursday apprised the Commissioner and Secretary of Sericulture and Weaving, Sampath Kumar, of the threat the sericulture workers from Ummulong, West Jainita Hills, are facing from some officers of the department.
The threat was after the workers spoke against the corruption in the department during a public hearing on Wednesday.
Rangad said that an officer identified as Ann Passah on Thursday made the workers sign a blank paper
which, she claims, will remove the allegations that appeared in the media.
Rangad asked Kumar to ensure the safety and security of the workers.
The Sericulture Muster Roll Workers and TUR had organised the public hearing on the documents which they received after an RTI reply revealed anomalies in distribution of wages.
