NONGSTOIN: The women’s wing of the HSPDP’s Nongstoin area unit has threatened to part ways with the party if the selection of candidate for the 2018 polls is not done as per norms.
Following a meeting held at Bishop Hall here on Saturday, general secretary of the HSPDP’s Nongstoin area women’s wing F. Marngar said if the central body of the party fails to allot the ticket as per the set norms, she and her supporters will leave the party.
The meeting was attended by hundreds of HSPDP workers.
Speaking to media persons, Marngar said the meeting resolved to demand local MLA and president of HSPDP’s Nongstoin unit Diosstarness Jyndiang to convene a general meeting to select a candidate for the 2018 polls.
Marngar pointed out that on February 28 Jyndiang had promised to convene a general meeting to decide on a candidate whose name was to be forwarded to the central body for its approval, but the local MLA was yet to act on the promise.
“We have learnt that Jyndiang forwarded only his name to the central body for securing party ticket. This is against the norms of the party as it is the primary units that decide on the name of the candidate before forwarding it to the central body for approval,” Marngar said.
Marngar also said the women’s wing will again request Jyndiang to convene a meeting in this regard and in case the local MLA fails to respond to the request, the matter will be taken up with the president of the HSPDP’s central body.
In case the central body ignores their grievance, the women’s wing members will be forced to leave the party, Marngar said.
Meanwhile, reacting to the allegations, Jyndiang said that ticket allotment was the prerogative of the party’s central body and the state election committee and there was no way that he could manipulate the process.
Launching a counter attack on Marngar, the Nongstoin MLA said some people who have recently joined the party are trying to create confusion among its ranks and leadership by making irresponsible statements.
He also slammed the local women’s wing general secretary for threatening to break the party.
“HSPDP will unite as it has done on numerous occasions before,” he said adding that the executive committee of the party will meet soon to take action against “those who speak against the party”.
