SHILLONG: The KHNAM has called upon all qualified jugalis (helpers of linemen) across Meghalaya to attend a public meeting at Students’ Field, Jaiaw at 11am on May 19 to decide the future course of action following the alleged indifference on the part of the MeECL in appointing them.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, KHNAM youth wing president Thomas Passah said, “The MeECL has not given the jugalis their appointment letters despite the May 15 deadline served by us. The jugali candidates are apprehensive that their appointments may lapse.” There are 772 qualified jugali candidates and their appointments are to be done in a phase-wise manner.
Passah informed that 466 jugalis under phase II and III are yet to be appointed, while 306 have been issued appointment letters in the first phase.
It may be mentioned that MeECL had declared the results for the 772 jugali posts last year, though it was advertised in 2011 thereby resulting in the delay of five years.
