Guwahati: The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Ltd. has pledged Rs. 50 lakh for beautification
and up-keep of Kokrajhar railway stations under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed by the Senior. Divisional Commercial Manager of Alipurduar Division of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Subimal Sen and the Additional General Manager of NTPC’s Bongaigaon plant, Sujit Varkey.
This is the first instance of a station receiving CSR funding for maintaining cleanliness in the NFR, the CPRO of the NFR P J Sharma informed.
As a part of the MoU, the NTPC will provide Rs.50 lakhs to the NFR for beautification and up-keeping of Kokrajhar Railway station for a period of two years through services to be outsourced by Railways.
Both NTPC and Railways would identify and formulate projects for beautification of Kokrajhar station and the NFR will engage agencies to carry out the work within the overall budget of Rs. 50 lakh.
Progress of the project would be reviewed periodically after every three months.
NTPC Ltd. – a Maharatna company – is a Central Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Power, Government of India engaged in generation & sale of electricity to state–owned power distribution companies and State Electricity Boards in India.
The Company has the Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project in Assam.
NTPC has taken up a policy of adopting Railway Stations, Schools, Hospitals, and Heritage Sites etc. for cleanliness under its CSR of Development Action Plan last year.
Railway Ministry has also formulated a guideline for execution of identified environmental sustainability works, cleanliness and sanitation of stations and provision of certain passenger amenities through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Corporate and Public Sector Undertakings.
