SHILLONG: Ri-Bhoi district is all set to celebrate its 25th Foundation Day from June 5-June 9 at NSCA Stadium, Pahamsyiem. The celebration will showcase the long lost tradition and culture of the Bhoi people.
Giving details of the festival on Thursday, Celestine Lyngdoh, Umsning MLA and chairman of the Ri-Bhoi District Silver Jubilee Celebration said, “It will be a five-day celebration which will allow people to experience the cultural diversity and richness of authentic traditions of the Bhois.”
He added that people will get to enjoy traditional food, dances, games and taste the seasonal specialty drink known to the Bhois as Jhoh.
Meanwhile, Lyngdoh pointed out that despite completing 25 years, Ri Bhoi has a long way to go in terms of development. “The district has no functional blood bank and lacks some other medical facilities. The youths are trained but there is no scope of absorbing them in the district,” he said.
He, however, pointed out that Ri Bhoi has been adjudged the best performing district in terms of education.
