SHILLONG: Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) has assured that all matters pertaining to the appointment of jugalis would be rectified by this month.
The assurance comes after several rounds of protests, including one on Friday, by disgruntled job aspirants. The corporation has been pilloried for delaying the appointment of 772 candidates applying for the post of jugalis, or helpers.
The candidates were scheduled to hold a public meeting on Friday but instead staged a procession march from Students’ Field Jaiaw to MeECL main office at Lumjingshai. They staged a sit-in protest in front of the office gate holding placards and blocking vehicles from entering the office.
Working president of the Khun Hynñiewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), Adelbert Nongrum, while speaking to reporters after meeting the joint secretary of MeECL thanked the corporation for its cooperation.
Thomas Passah, president of KHNAM youth wing, said, “This is not something new, we have been knocking on the doors of MeECL from time to time seeking clarification on the distribution of appointment letters. However, the corporation did not pay heed to our demand.”
He said if MeECL does not adhere to its assurances the party and the jugali candidates will continue their protest.
