TURA: Allegations of illegal land sale under Selbalgre A’king which comes under two clan Nokmas- the Manda clan and Chambugong clan, has come to the fore with the former accusing the latter of indulging in the illegal practice without any consultation or NOC.
In her complaint to the Settlement Officer, Land and Revenue of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), Injak M Sangma, Nokma of the Manda Clan alleged that Chambugong Clan Nokma, Pilatson Sangma has been selling off huge plots of land from the A’king to outsiders on his own, although Selbalgre A’king is an A’kingjikse (belongs to both clans) and needs the consent of both nokmas for any decision regarding the A’king. “The Chambugong clan Nokma has been selling land to outsiders without my consent and NOC which is illegal,” the Nokma of the Manda clan claimed. The Nokma urged the GHADC authority not to issue pattas to anyone applying for a plot at Selbalgre A’kingland and to cancel the pattas of those already issued.
