Guwahati: Security measures have been geared up in Assam in view of the forthcoming visit of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the state on May 26 next.
The Prime Minister will attend four programmes in the state on the same including two in Guwahati city.
The PM will inaugurate the country’s longest river bridge on Brahmaputra River at Dhola in Tinsukia district and address a public rally at Dhola village.
The 9.15 Km bridge that has been constructed by Navayuga Engineering Company Limited (NECL0 at a cost of Rs 1000 crore will connect Dhola (on the south
bank) and Sadiya (on the north bank) across the river Brahmaputra.
The PM will also lay the foundation of a research centre of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at Gogamukh in Dhemaji district.
He will address the nation at a public rally in Guwahati on the occasion of third anniversary of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre that coincides with the first anniversary of the BJP government in Assam.
Modi will lay foundation of the All India Institute of
Medical Science (AIIMS) to be set up at Sangsari near Guwahati at a ceremony to be held at Sarusajai National Games stadium in Guwahati.
Additional companies of paramilitary personnel have been deployed at Dhola and Sadiya towns while the newly-built bridge has been put out of bounds for the people for security reason in view of the visit of the PM to inaugurate it.
Senior police officials of Tinsukia district have pitched camp at the project site of the new bridge while patrolling on boats is being conducted on the river too, a senior police official informed.
Meanwhile, vigil has been, mounted in Guwahati city in the form intensified patrolling and checking of vehicles.
All the entry and exit points to the city have been manned by the paramilitary and police personnel. The rally venue of the Prime Minister at Khanapara has been put under CCTV surveillance from all directions.
