Lightning strikes Nohron village
SHILLONG: Lightning struck Nohron village under Mawkynrew Block on Sunday wee hours causing damages. A resident informed that three houses belonging to Erphi Sumer, Drilmai Sumer and Koila Lyting were damaged The house of Erphi sustained more damages than others. She lost a goat and since the wiring at the house was burnt, as many as 20 quintals of broomsticks caught fire. The toilet was also damaged.While there was damage to the roof of the house belonging to Drilmai, the house of Koila sustained minor damage.
WJH district BJP chief resigns
JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills District unit of BJP has named Marki Mulieh as its new president after J.G Kyndiah resigned from the post on Saturday. Kyndiah will be in the party as a primary member and member of the State Executive Committee.“This is the first political party I worked for and I have worked tirelessly in West Jaintia Hills District as the president since 2013,” Kyndiah stated in a release issued here.He also said he was finding it difficult to reconcile with the current functioning of the party or the direction in which it is going.“I no longer have the feeling that this is the same idealistic party which I first joined,” he added.
Deacon ordained in Jowai
JOWAI: Bishop of Jowai Diocese, Victor Lyngdoh ordained Deacon Marcellinus Riawed War as priest on Sunday. The ordination mass was celebrated at Syiem Jingsuk Parish, Amlarem in West Jaintia Hills. After inquiring if the deacon was worthy to be ordained, the Bishop accepted the request to the sound of applause from the thousands, who came to witness the religious event. Bishop Lyngdoh reminded the deacon the role of an ordained minister. Following the Bishop’s homily, the rite of ordination continued with Deacon Clarence promising fidelity to Christ.
SSA teachers’ annual conference
SHILLONG: The annual conference of the SSA teachers, East Garo Hills District was held on May 20 in Williamnagar. Teachers of both Upper Primary and Lower Primary of the region attended the programme, wherein, different issues were discussed but the delay in giving of enhanced salary and setting up of D.El.ED centers in the District were the burning agendas of the conference.The teachers also expressed their grievances over the non-payment of their salary since the month of March.In the conference, the new Office bearers were also elected for the Office of All Garo Hills SSA Teachers Association, East Zone, East Garo Hills.The newly elected Office bearers are: Paulush Arengh as president, vice president is Labinston Marak, secretary is Lohin Marak, Robirt Sangma as joint secretary, publicity secretary is Bamsrang Marak, accountant, Sarnitha Arengh, Treasurer, Shaira Marak, organising secretary is Renibirth Marak, Minuritha Marak as Assistant organising secretary and the advisers are Jalin Marak, Galsim Sangma, Karben Marak.
First death anniversary of Fr Sngi on May 28
SHILLONG: The first death anniversary of Fr. Sylvanus Sngi Lyngdoh, SDB will be observed at Dominic Savio Church, Mawlai Parish ground on May 28 with Mass at 10 am. The Mawlai Parish has urged the faithful from other parishes to participate. The parish also arranged parking place for the vehicles. A statement from the Parish said that all buses should be parked from Mawlai Phudmuri Kjatshnong upto Madanheh and for other vehicles, the parking place will be in Sacred Heart Theological College, Sacred Heart Girl Higher Secondary School and Savio Juniorate Mawlai Motsyiar.
