SHILLONG/NONGSTOIN: While West Khasi Hills has fixed the dates for enrolment of names for Aadhaar, East Khasi Hills is still preparing to send its teams to various localities.
“Enrolment by the Unique Identification Authority of India for issue of the unique biometric enabled number, Aadhaar, will begin on May 25 for government servants and May 29 for the residents of West Khasi Hills,” Deputy Commissioner Arun Kumar Kembhavi said.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner P.S Dkhar said teams will be deployed shortly, starting from Mawlai, for Aadhaar enrolment.
Kembhavi said he was not aware of any order of exemption for Assam, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir.
“I have received the order from the State Government to begin the enrolment,” he said.
He also refused to comment on the question on criticism against the Aadhaar enrolment.
Hyderabad-based company Awas InfoTech System Ltd is implementing the enrolment process.
Kembhavi said the district administration had conducted a sensitisation programme and selected a team of 50 persons to start the enrolment in West Khasi Hills.
“We already have the action plan. On May 25, we will enroll only government servants and officers attached to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, besides the staff in SDO Civil Mairang, and on May 29, we will launch the full-fledged enrolment in various parts of West Khasi Hills,” Kembhavi said.
