Malaria deaths decline in Mizoram

Aizawl: With no malaria death recorded during the first quarter of this year, malarial infection has considerably declined in Mizoram compared to last year. Health officials said that 35,801 blood samples tested during the last three months, 582 malaria cases were found, which constituted 1.63 percent of blood samples tested. The information, education & communication (IEC) under the National Health Mission attributed the decline in malaria cases to the extensive use of long lasting insecticide nets (LLIN) and cooperation from the public. The IEC said LLINs were distributed to 731 villages in 2016. Officials expressed the hope that with the current rate of decrease in malaria deaths, the state might be able to completely eradicate malaria soon despite being malaria prone area. (UNI)
