JOWAI: The dollois, agents of the JHADC for management of land system in Jaintia Hills, have filed a petition in the High Court of Meghalaya against their suspension allegedly for violation of the District Council rules.
The Court after hearing the petition on Tuesday issued a directive to the JHADC to speed up the enquiry process against the erring dollois.
The JHADC alleged that dollois of Jaintia Hills had set up check gates or toll gates and started collection of tax from vehicles along the National Highway thereby violating the norms and rules of the JHADC.
Later, the JHADC had suspended many dollois.
However, Manbha Kyndoh, the general secretary of the Dorbar Ki Dolloi Ri Jaintia filed a petition before the Court.
After the suspension of most of the dollois those who came forward to apologise before the stipulated deadline, were re-instated, but the case of those who have apologised after the expiry of the deadline will be examined by the EC of the JHADC after receiving the report from the inquiry team.
The Court after hearing the case, denied any interim stay and added that the petitioner is at liberty to apply for stay afresh, in case the occasion so arises.
The Court also instructed JHADC to complete the inquiry at the earliest.
The Court further observed, “In the interest of justice, it is made clear that the inquiry proceedings against the petitioner shall remain subject to the final order to be passed in the writ petition”.
The matter will be heard after four weeks and the State will have to file its counter affidavit before the hearing.
