SHILLONG: The Department of Sericulture and Weaving said it has initiated an inquiry to find out if there was any misappropriation of funds meant to pay wages of temporary workers.
The department said its representatives were present during a public hearing at the request of ‘Thma U Rangli Juki’ (TUR).
The Sericulture Muster Roll Workers and TUR had alleged embezzlement following an RTI reply that revealed anomalies in distribution of wages.
The purpose of the hearing was to resolve the issues that cropped up due to the engagement of labourers at various farms and centres under the department after discontinuation of temporary workers’ services between in 2015-16.
