SHILLONG: The rising number of vehicles and constructions has raised concerns over air quality in the city and made it necessary to monitor pollutant levels.
Now, the state pollution control board will be able to keep tabs on emission and air quality with its new emission monitoring system that was launched by Additional Chief Secretary in charge of the Forest and Environment Shreeranjan on Tuesday. Knowledge Lens Pvt Ltd has developed the continuous emission monitoring system and provided a single server platform known as Green Lens (Glens) and installed it on the cloud server for the Pollution Control Board. Under the system, data pertaining to emission and air quality is directly captured from the different make of instrument installed at the industries and the data is transmitted to the board using dedicated internet services provided by these industries.
An online consent management and monitoring system of the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board was also launched on Tuesday by Forest and Environment Minister Clement Marak.
Speaking on the occasion, Clement Marak said the system will help in automating the existing workflow associated with the consent management and monitoring system, which exists in most pollution control boards and committees. While congratulating the board and the National Informatics Centre, the Minister appreciated the launch of the emission monitoring system.
Earlier, Shreeranjan said, “The Forest Department is usually seen as an anti-development department due to the various regulations which it has to follow before giving clearances and no objection certificates.”
The additional chief secretary asked all departments to adopt people-friendly approaches by using technology and in the process they can address various violations and grievances and respond to it accordingly.
