Fire damages MePDCL equipment worth Rs 3 cr

SHILLONG: A major fire destroyed transformers and electrical equipment of MeECL worth over Rs 3 crore at Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills, on Wednesday.
According to police, the fire broke out around 9.30 am at the 132 KV Sub-Station of Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) at Khliehriat.
Police said three transformers and other electrical equipment valued around Rs 3.20 crore were damaged.
As per the initial report of the police, the cause of the fire is due to technical failure.
