SHILLONG: Former BJP leader Bernard Marak on Sunday said that for ages, it is Garos, not BJP who protected the interests of the Hindu community in Garo Hills.
Marak had resigned from BJP over the party’s unhappiness over his move to organise a beef festival in Garo Hills to celebrate three years of Modi government.
In a statement issued to the media, Marak said BJP was not there when Hindu communities had difficult time settling Tura Samshanghat or when their names were deleted from the electoral rolls.
“Garo and Hindu communities lived together for decades. BJP’s agenda should not be allowed to grow in Garo Hills as it will have a communal repercussion among the small communities of Garo Hills. Garos are friends of Hindus, and are duty bound towards them as they live in the Hills of the Garos,” Marak said.
BJP has proved its anti Garo stand.
BJP’s hidden agenda will leave many non Garos homeless in Garo Hills if BJP starts executing its agenda, he said.
“The proposed bitchi-beef festival in our traditional way to mark the 3 years of Modi Governance was intentionally posted in social media to confirm if BJP was an anti Garo party. They proved by their stand and remarks.
They tried to impose unethical ban on beef in our land hurting the sentiments of the Garos.
This could have flared up a communal disharmony among the people of different faiths if the voice was not raised”, he added.
