SHILLONG: In the context of adverse law and order situation following the protest against the railway project, the temporary Assembly at Rilbong was brought under the purview of Section 144 CrPC. The special session of the Assembly is scheduled for Monday.
The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has promulgated the order prohibiting the assembly of five or more persons within a radius of 500 meters of the temporary Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, and assembly of five or more persons within a radius of 100 meters of the Meghalaya Secretariat, Main and Additional Buildings.
This order will come into force on Monday from 8 am till the conclusion of the special assembly session.
The order prohibits any person or group of persons from obstructing vehicular movement in the area around the Assembly premises and carrying of arms and other lethal weapons or any item or material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons in and around the Legislative Assembly. The order will not be applicable to the security forces on duty.
The magistrate said the order was issued as there is a possibility that some NGOs may protest in front of the temporary Assembly Chamber, Rilbong, and the State Secretariat building during the session.
The order is also necessitated to ensure peace and tranquility and smooth conduct of the special session of the House, the statement added.
