TURA: A resident of neighbouring Assam, who was abducted by a kidnappers’ gang from the inter-state border has managed to escape from the clutches of the group and was rescued by police with the help of the public from the outskirts of Tura town on Saturday.
The 28 year old victim, Muksadul Alom, who hailed from Pubergaon village of Jhowdanga under Mankachar’s South Salmara district was running a tempo taxi service on the Garobadha-Ampati route of South West Garo Hills.
Posing as passengers the gang members boarded his three wheeler tempo (ML08 E 1271) at Aidoba village under Monabari Police Outpost on Friday and abducted him. The criminals then began making phone calls to the family demanding ransom for his release.
On Saturday morning Muksadul was able to break free from his captivity at Boldorenggre village, near Rongkhon Tura. He was helped by locals, who alerted police as soon as they came to know of the incident.
The kidnappers, in the meantime, fled from the scene.
He was later handed over to his family in the presence of a team of police from Mankachar, Assam.
Police are on the lookout for the group who also took away the victim’s tempo. It is yet to be recovered.
