SHILLONG: Nongkrem MDC HS Shylla has asserted that he will resign from UDP stating that the party has decided not to field candidate from Nongkrem for the 2018 Assembly polls as part of the UDP-HSPDP pre-poll alliance and seat adjustment.
In a statement on Sunday, Shylla said his supporters want him to contest the Assembly elections as they ensured his victory in the district council by-election.
As a parting note, he conveyed his best wishes to the UDP-HSPDP pre-poll alliance.
Referring to the allegations that he wanted to join HSPDP, Shylla said that he has no intentions to ‘enter the lion’s den’ (referring to the HSPDP’s symbol lion).
Shylla said he aspired to see unity of all the four regional parties-UDP, HSPDP, KHNAM and PDF.
According to him, unity of all regional parties should be the goal as there is a difference between pre- poll alliance forged by UDP-HSPDP and the unity of all regional parties.
He said that there is a need to bring laws and policies to revive various departments like education and health.
