SHILLONG: The Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has asked CMJ University not to admit any other student nor engage any other persons in the administration and added that status quo regarding the setup of the university should be maintained.
The court in its order on Monday also stayed the 2015 order of the single judge till final disposal of the appeal of the State Government.
The Single Bench of the High Court in an order on July 16, 2015, had questioned the intention of the Government in dissolving the University and hence stayed the move.
The Division Bench, however, said the students undergoing their courses at present “may, if so chosen by them, continue with the university but in case any student makes a representation to the Government,
the same shall be sympathetically considered in the light of the order passed by the Apex Court”.
The Apex Court had said the government can look into the grievances of the students.
The Division Bench also said the representation, if any pending with the State Government, will also be taken up for consideration and appropriate decision should be taken on such representations expeditiously while keeping in view the fact that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that no prejudice is caused to any bona fide student because of the litigation.
