BJYM says no State co-operation for central schemes

SHILLONG: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) said on Thursday many people in the State are in the dark about various central schemes because of the State Government’s non-cooperation.
Addressing the media, BJYM President Egenstar Kurkalang said there are a few bureaucrats in the State who cooperate with the Centre and so “people are not aware of the schemes which were released during the three years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rule.”
Kurkalang said officers do not approach the public in rural areas to sensitise them about schemes for farmers, self-help groups and the youth but this void will be filled up by trained youth.
When asked to elaborate on the non-cooperation of the State Government, Kurkalang said, “There are some areas where the State Government cooperates and neglects in some.”
The youth wing president pointed out the case of the Centre’s LED bulbs scheme under which each household in a village should get 10 bulbs through the department concerned.
“It is surprising that the State Government refuses to route (the scheme) through proper channel but instead it is the private enterprise that is distributing the LED bulbs. Officially, in the government, we don’t see the distribution of the LED bulbs,” he added.
BJYM held a conference on Thursday to highlight the various schemes like MUDRA, skill development,  Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Swacch Bharat and the pension scheme.
Speaking of the objective of the conference, he said, “We urge the youth to meet officers of various departments to seek their intervention with regard to the implementation of schemes in the State.”
‘Youth want change’
Meanwhile, Kurkalang asserted that the youth in the State want a change in governance and are opting for the saffron party. He also slammed the incumbent government in Meghalaya for failing to deliver on the development front.
Speaking to reporters, he said the failure of the State Government to live up to its promises has prompted the young people to demand for a change.
Election preparedness
Commenting on its role in the preparation of the party for the upcoming Assembly election, Kurkalang said that the youth wing is ready for the poll battle.
“We are prepared to field some candidates who will be able to streamline the youth to steer them away from being misled,” he said.
He, however, refused to disclose the names of the candidates and only stated that they would cover East Khasi Hills, Ri Bhoi, West Khasi Hills and Garo Hills.
