SHILLONG: The State Cabinet has decided to revoke administrator’s rule in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Talking to media persons here on Thursday after the Cabinet meeting, Mukul Sangma said the Cabinet would send its recommendation to Governor Banwarilal Purohit, besides summoning a special session to elect the chief executive member in the GHADC.
The State Cabinet had proposed administrator’s rule on April 1 after the Council plunged into crisis when chief executive member Denang Sangma resigned before facing the no-confidence motion brought by the Congress-led opposition.
The governor approved it on April 4 and the deputy commissioner of South Garo Hills, C.V Darlong Diengdoh, took charge of the Council.
The chief minister recalled that the then chief executive member of the GHADC had resigned without passing the Budget that forced the government to intervene.
Now, the elected members of the GHADC will vote for a new CEM to be followed by a new executive council so that the process of demand of grants and provisional budget can resume.
The date for convening the special session will be indicated by the governor.
Former GHADC chairman Boston Marak had earlier claimed that a new executive committee would be formed by the end of this month with the support of MDCs from the Congress, the Garo National Council and independents.
The 29-member House includes 10 NPP, seven Congress, four Garo National Council, five independents and one each of the Bharatiya Janata Party and the National Congress Party members.
