SHILLONG: NEHU Teachers Association (NEHUTA) has urged the President of India as the Visitor of NEHU to initiate an inquiry against the Vice-Chancellor as he is no longer trustworthy either to NEHU community or to the MHRD since he stopped Hill Areas Special Allowance (HASA).
The NEHUTA general body meeting said the VC has lost moral right to continue and added that it will not cooperate with the VC until the VC and the MHRD correct their irregularities.
“The VC will continue to manipulate the minutes of the meeting of Executive Council held on June 14 to stop HASA by going against the opinion of the majority within the EC”, NEHUTA said.
According to NEHUTA, the stand of the Vice-Chancellor informing the MHRD that the Executive Council has ‘humbly accepted’ direction to stop payment of HASA in its 48th emergency meeting is a total distortion of the actual minutes.
“The actual minutes circulated in the University stated that the council resolved that the matter be placed before the Academic Council. In contrast, the Registrar of the University alongwith the Vice-Chancellor informed the MHRD that the Executive Council has repealed the ordinance pertaining to payment of HASA, which is untrue and fabricated”, NEHUTA said.
The teachers’ body said that this amounts to wilful tampering of the minutes of the University authorities like executive council and academic council that misled the MHRD and the office of the Visitor in writing back to the Vice-Chancellor of NEHU that the direction of the Visitor to repeal the ordinance for payment of HASA is accepted from May 15, a fictitious date, as no such decision was taken the way it is stated in MHRD letter dated June 12.
