NONGPOH: Journalists in Ri Bhoi have condemned the district police for intimidating a correspondent of a Khasi daily in connection with the violent protests by KSU on May 27.
Cornelius Laloo of Mawphor, who also works for Peitngor Cable News, was served a summons by investigating officer S.R Marak asking them to produce photos and videos of the arson case at Ronghana as evidence within four days. It was also mentioned that if they fail to do so, legal action would be taken against them. However, when the journalists met Marak on Friday seeking clarification, the IO informed that the summons letter was served as per the instruction of Ri Bhoi SP Ramesh Singh and Marak also instructed the journalist not to reply to the letter. The delegation decided to inform the SP that for requirement of photos and videos in support of the case, police should directly take up the matter with the concerned organisations since he is not authorized to give the photos and videos. Recently, a lawyer advocating for the KSU was also summoned by the Ri Bhoi police for taking up the case in the court.
