New women’s organisation formed
SHILLONG: A coalition of women’s organisations of the Hynniewtrep was formed recently during a meeting at Mawpat. The meeting of village women’s bodies of Khasi and Jaintia Hills unanimously decided to form Ka Synjuk Ki Seng Kynthei Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (coalition of village women’s organisations in the land of Hynniewtrep).The organisation will look into issues like human trafficking for sexual exploitation, bonded labour, domestic violence; sexual offences committed on children, denial of basic human rights to women, among others. A press statement from the organisations state that victims may contact the President at 9856129960 or the general secretary at 8259041545. The meeting also decided the names of ad hoc office bearers and steering committee members. P. Wallang and T.T Swer are named as the president and the vice president of the organisation.

Rabindranath Tagore Club to organise cultural event
Shillong:The Rabindranath Tagore Club, Laban will organise the 10th Inter Shillong Cultural Event from June 25 to July 16 (every Sunday). Events like Rangoli competition, Rabindra Sangeet, Folk Song & Dance on Tagore Song competition will be held on June 25 in Bangiya Sahityo Parishad Auditorium, Jail Road. While marathon, art, fun games, essay and quiz competition will be held on July 2 at Laban Bengalee Boys’ Higher Secondary School. Recitation in English & Recitation in Bengali will be held on July 9 at Bangiya Sahityo Parishad Auditorium, Jail Road. Dance on Hindi Song and Quiz final will be held on July 16 at Bangiya Sahityo Parishad Auditorium, Jail Road.
