SHILLONG: BJP has seen a political angle in the hate campaign unleashed by vested interests on social media sites.
BJP MDC from the GHADC Sofior Rahman, along with state BJP members, during a news conference here on Saturday made it clear that the Facebook post in his name was the handiwork of some vested interests. The post had adverse comments about Garos.
Earlier, former ANVC-B leader Bernard Marak, who recently resigned from BJP, cited a Facebook post uploaded by Abhishek Chetry referring to the Facebook message of Rahman which said that BJP and NPP are the same and that Garo Hills is not Garos’ land but that of Hindus and Muslims.
However, Rahman said his name was misused and that he never posted anything in this regard.
Rahman, who filed an FIR with the police, said a BJP delegation will meet the Meghalaya DGP to unravel the motive of the groups who tarnished his and the party’s image.
Rahman, who is also the State President of the Minority under BJP said he came to know about the fake post when the party vice president informed him and subsequently, he lodged a complaint with the West Garo Hills SP.
BJP general secretary Bashailang Khongwir said the party was committed to expose those who are involved in maligning the party which is propagating ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas’ agenda.
The case has been transferred to the cyber wing of the police in city. “If the state police is unable to solve the case, we will seek the intervention of the Centre,” Khongwir said.
Besides the FIR lodged by Rahman, Khongwir said BJP will file separate complaints with the DGP and the Sadar Police Station.
“We are also demanding that the investigation in this regard should be done under the Information Technology (IT) Act as well as IPC,” Khongwir said.
According to Khongwir, a fake Facebook account has been created in Rahman’s name and the sensitive post was put up to create controversy and communal disharmony.
“It is a case of impersonation, a case of stolen identity with common intention. It is with a purpose of deliberately disrupting social harmony,” Khongwir said.
BJP also demanded security cover for the MDC since he had received threats from various quarters following the post.
To a query, BJP spokesman Basu Chakraborty pointed out that this can be the handiwork of people who are opposed to BJP and that they had planted their own persons in the party.
“It is clear from the fact that those who were planted in the party are now going back to a particular party which is the Congress,” Basu said.
